HAROLD KEMP DIES AS CARS COLLIDE LATE SATURDAY

Four Escape Injury In Accident Fatal To 19-Year-Old Boy

Harold Kemp, 19-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Reva Kemp of Wildcat Valley, died early Sunday morning at the Higgins Hospital, Olean, as a result of injuries received in an auto-mobile crash two mile below Shinglehouse early Saturday evening.

Harold and a friend, Floyd Bliss, of Sharon Center, were on their way to Ceres, N.Y., when, shortly after 8 o'clock, the car in which they were driving collided with that of George Goff, Millport, who was accompanied by Harry Andrews and Lawrence Hyde, also of Millport.

It was a terrific smash-up with a fatal aftermath. Following the ear splitting crash of the two automobiles, Kemp was thrown through the windshield, hurtling to the pavement some feet away. He was rushed to the hospital where he was found to be suffering from a fractured skull, a compound fracture of the right arm near the elbow, fractured jaw, and body bruises. Though frantic efforts were made to restore him, he was beyond medical aid and died at 6 a.m.

Andrews and Hyde, occupants of the Goff car, are reported slightly injured Andrew receiving bruises about the body while Hyde was cut rather severely about the face. The report that liquor was found in Goff's car has not been confirmed. He is at present being held pending further developments.

Funeral services for Mr. Kemp were held Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 at the Kemp home. Reverent R.M. Safford, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Shinglehouse, officiated. The services were followed by the interment in the Chrystal Cemetery conducted by H. D. Morton, funeral director.

The Journal offers its condolences to Mr. and Mrs. Kemp in the hour of their bereavement.
