Obituary: CERES, Pa.—Clarence L. "Babby" Babcock Jr., 68. of Kings Run Road died Wednesday (March 21,2001) in his home after a long illness. Born July 20, 1932, in Shinglehouse, he was a son of Clarence L. and Emma J. Babcock Sr. On July 2, 1955, in Shinglehouse, he married the former Virginia M. Green, who survives. Mr. Babcock attended the former Horse Run Country School. He served as a paratrooper in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was employed for many years at Dresser-Rand in Olean, NY, retiring in 1975 due to ill health. Mr. Babcock was a member of the Ceres United Methodist Church. He was an avid softball player and coach, and he enjoyed hunting and bowling. In addition to his wife, Mr. Babcock is survived by his mother of Shinglehouse; four sons, Dennis E. (Danae) Babcock, Bradley J. (Diane) Babcock, Robert M. (Rose) Babcock and Terry L. (Janice) Babcock, all of Shinglehouse; a daughter, Linda M. (Barry) Wheeler of Shinglehouse; 17 grandchiidren; five great-grandchildren; three brothers, Edward (Diane) Babcock of Port Allegany, James Babcock of Shinglehouse and Donald (Linda) Babcock of Waynesburg, Ohio; two sisters, Eloise (Paul) Plants of Ceres and Eva Bell of Shinglehouse; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Babcock was predeceased by his father. Friends called at the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home in Shinglehouse Thursday from 7 to 9 pm and on Friday (Mareh 23, 2001) from 10 to 11, at which time funeral and committal services were held in the funeral home. The Rev. Russell J. Horning, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Shinglehouse, and Paul Plants, brother-in-law of Mr. Babcock officiated. Burial was in Maple Grove Cemetery in Shinglehouse. Memorials may be made to the Shinglehouse Volunteer Ambulance Association, PO Box 98, Shinglehouse, PA 16748.
