Obituary: Kenneth C. Bump “beloved husband, father, & grandfather” Shinglehouse, PA----Kenneth C. “Kenny” Bump, 86, of Honeoye Street, Shinglehouse, died surrounded by his loving family and friends on Sunday, June 13, 2010 at the Olean General Hospital, Olean, NY. Born April 22, 1924 in Shinglehouse, he was a son of Cecil O. and Anna S. Whitney Bump. On October 18, 1946 in Genesee, PA, he married Dorothea I. “Dot” Dunshie, who died on April 8, 2003. Mr. Bump attended Shinglehouse High School and enlisted in the U.S. Army on March 25, 1943 serving during World War II in India. He was honorably discharged on March 5, 1946 having attained the rank of Sergeant. He worked in local oil fields for the former Bradley Producers in Bolivar, NY. He also delivered milk for the former Spring Hill Dairy in Portville, NY and at the same time, he and his wife, ran the former Bump’s Restaurant in Shinglehouse. He later was employed at the former Acme Electric Corporation in Allegany, NY. He then was employed as the stockroom manager and assistant manager of the former Weston’s Mills Shopper’s City. He then worked at the former Ethan Allen Furniture in Eldred and the former Hennigh’s Trailer Sales in Shinglehouse. He was a member of the Shinglehouse United Methodist Church, a member of Sharon Lodge #598 F & AM in Shinglehouse, a member of the Coudersport Consistory, a member of the Shinglehouse American Legion Post 530, and a life member of the Shinglehouse Volunteer Fire Department. He also was a member of the Oswayo Valley Senior Center in Shinglehouse, where he also served as a volunteer for Meals on Wheels. He was a member of the former Monitor Roamers Trailer Club, a member of the former Grand Squares Square Dance Club in Wellsville, and a former board member for Potter County Human Services. Mr. Bump enjoyed camping, boating and his yearly vacations in Florida. Surviving are two sons, Gregory K. (Yvonne) Bump of Annville and Larry E. Bump of Shinglehouse; a granddaughter, Babette A. (John) Rudick of Middletown; a great-granddaughter, Kaitlyn “Katie” Kellogg; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Bump was predeceased by a brother, Frank L. Bump; and a sister, F. Marion Bryant. Friends may call on Tuesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, Shinglehouse, PA where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 16, 2010. The Rev. Randall W. Headley, pastor of the Port Allegany United Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery, Shinglehouse. Members of the Shinglehouse Volunteer Fire Department will gather to pay their respects at 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday in the funeral home. Members of Sharon Lodge #598 F & AM will conduct a Masonic service on Tuesday evening at 8:45 p.m. in the funeral home. The Potter County Honor Guard will accord full military honors on Wednesday. Memorials may be made to the Oswayo Valley Senior Center, 1005 East Honeoye Street, Shinglehouse, PA 16748; Shinglehouse Volunteer Ambulance Association, PO Box 98, Shinglehouse, PA 16748; Oswayo Valley Memorial Library, PO Box 188, Shinglehouse, PA 16748; or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
