Lyle G. Sugden "loving father and grandfather"


SHINGLEHOUSE, PA---Lyle G. Sugden, 81, of Shinglehouse, passed away Tuesday, April 14, 2015 with his loving family by his side at home after a long illness.

Born September 17, 1933 in Genesee, he was a son of Ai H. and Angeline Knickerbocker Sugden. On March 22, 1956 he married Eileen R. Jones, who passed away on June 6, 2007.

Lyle faithfully served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was employed by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation for many years before his retirement. After retiring he worked for the Oswayo Valley School District in Shinglehouse mowing lawns.

Lyle was a member of the Shinglehouse American Legion Post #530. He enjoyed taking care of his property and helping his neighbors in any way possible. His greatest love was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Surviving are two daughters, Kimberly Ann (Kevin) Majot of Little Genesee, NY and Kathy Ann (Marty) Wysocki of Portville, NY; three grandchildren, Christopher T. Majot, Haley N. Majot, and Hanna E. Wysocki; a sister, Elsie Coleman of Erie; a special friend, Lois Daub of Oswayo; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, Lyle was predeceased by three brothers, Ronald Sugden, Harold Sugden, and Howard Sugden; and three sisters, June Costello, Laura Outman, and Betty Hayes.

Friends may call from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 16, 2015 at the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, 118 South Union Street, Shinglehouse, PA where funeral services will follow at 2:30 p.m. with the Rev. Thomas M. Shatto, chaplain of the Potter County Hospice, officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Shinglehouse.

Members of the Potter County Honor Guard will accord military honors on Thursday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of the donorĂ¢â‚¬â„¢s choice.
