Clarence E. Kemp

Business Man Loses Battle After Long Illness.

Clarence E. Kemp, one of the leading business men of Shingle house, passed away at the Moun

tain Clinic, Olean, N. Y., after an illness of long duration, Tuesday afternoon. January

11, 1949.

Mr. Kemp was born at Eleven Mile, February 5, 1885. He was united in marriage to Catherine M. Conners in Olean, September 21, 1904. Coming to Shinglehouse 25 years ago he engaged in the automobile and garage business. For the past 10 years, in partnership with his son, Paul Kemp, he had been an active oil producer operating a lease in Hebron Township.

He was a member of Sharon lodge No.598, Free and Accepted Masons, and the Coudersport Consistory Class of 1929. He was a member of the Borough Council ,for 12 years and president of the Council during four years of that service. He was also a member of the
United Brethren Church.

Mr. Kemp was very active in community affairs throughout his residence In Shinglehouse.

He is survived by his wife; one daughter, Mrs. Frank A. Smith, Old Tappan, N. J.; two sons,

Paul H. Kemp, Shinglehouse and Clarence Kemp Jr., Lancaster, N. Y.; six ,grandchildren; one brother, Ora Kemp, Eleven Mile; two sisters, Mrs. Fred Dunshie, Eleven Mile and Mrs.
Claude Crandall, Alma, N. Y. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services were held Thursday with private services at ,the home at 2:45 o'clock with the Rev. H. H. Atkins
officiating, followed by services at the ,Methodist Church at 3:15 with Rev. Don L. Moody, pastor, officiating.

Burial was made in Maple Grove Cemetery, Pall bearers, all members of the Brotherhood Class of the Methodist Church were: John S. Pearsall, Walter T. Palmer Jr., Neil Haynes, Frank Bixby, Roy M. Babcock and Owen T. Jenkins.
