David J. Gibson
“former Shinglehouse resident”

Shinglehouse, PA---David J. Gibson, 83, entered the next world on June 4, 2010. His parents were the late Earle and Hettie Chamberlin Gibson. He was a graduate of Shinglehouse High School.

Debbie Gibson Graham sailed with her husband Derrick from their home in Cape Town, South Africa on their 45 foot sailboat to be with her aging parents.

As David’s condition worsened Hope Gibson Wagner, a registered nurse, flew David to Portland, Oregon, to care for him.

In World War II, David served aboard the high speed cutter the Owasco.

After the war, he attended St. Bonaventure University obtaining a degree in mathematics. At St. Bonaventure he participated in the ROTC program being trained in Field Artillery. He was then sent to Korea act as a Forward Observer directing fire of a battery of 105 Howitzers.

Mr. Gibson played taps for all the deceased military members in the Tampa, Florida area. He also played taps on Memorial Day at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Shinglehouse in 2009.

He served as an engineer for a number of companies.

He leaves behind two daughters mentioned above; two grandchildren; and a brother, Larry (Jan) Gibson.

His wife of 58 years, Faith Stearns Gibson, passed away 1 year earlier. His son, David E. Gibson, passed away in 2001.

A brief graveside memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 3, 2010 at 12 noon in the Wells Cemetery, Oswayo, PA with the Rev. Daniel P. Grimes, pastor of the Shinglehouse United Methodist Church, officiating.

Members of the Potter County Honor Guard will accord full military honors at the cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, Shinglehouse.
