Leah M. Lawton, former Ceres resident
AKRON -- Leah M. Lawton, 86, of Akron, and formerly of Ceres, died Saturday (Sept. 3, 2005) in The Waters of Gasport after a long illness.
Born April 15, 1919, in Sunderlinville, Pa., she was a daughter of Stephen and Cleva Schoonover Loucks. On Sept. 6, 1941, she married Olon B. Lawton, who died on Feb. 9, 1986.
Prior to retirement, Mrs. Lawton was employed as a food service worker at Sisters of St. Joseph's in Clarence.
Mrs. Lawton was a member of the Ceres United Methodist Church. She enjoyed crocheting and attending the Clarence Field dat. She loved to play the piano.
Surviving are a daughter, Barbara A. (Donald) Burkhart of Clarence Center; a son, Jerry D. (Debbie) Lawton of Lockport; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; a half brother, Stanley (Lucille) Burger of Middleport; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, Shinglehouse, Pa., on Tuesday (Sept. 6, 2005) from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at which time funeral services will be held in the funeral home. Pastor John Lawton, grandson of Mrs. Lawton, will officiate. Burial will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery, Shinglehouse.
n lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society for breast cancer patients or to the American Diabetes Association.
