LaVerne Lowe, served in Civilian Conservation Corps
SHINGLEHOUSE, Pa. - LaVerne A. Lowe Sr., 79, of Mill
Street died Wednesday (Sept. 21,
1994) in Charles Cole Memorial
Hospital after a long illness.
He was born Sept. 18, 1915, in
Portville, a son of Jesse T. and
Clara Kester Lowe. On July 18,
1938, in Millport, Pa., he married
Vera I. Lawton, who survives.
Mr. Lowe was the owner and operator
of a sawmill in Millport and
later worked in oil fields in this
area as well as in Ohio. He was
also a logger, a mechanic and a
pinsetter for the former Alpa Lanes
in Shinglehouse. He had also been
employed by the Shinglehouse Borough.
He served in the Civilian Conservation
Corps, and he enjoyed
playing musical instruments.
Surviving in addition to his wife
are six daughters, Ms. LaVerna E.
Krisher of Olean, Mrs. Vernon
(Lois) Prentice of Bolivar, Clara B.
Lowe of New Philadelphia, Ohio,
Mrs. Rosalie E. Siller of Mentor,
Ohio, Mrs. Dale (Frances) A.
Stonemetz of Shinglehouse, and
Ms. Ramona J. Lowe of Tulsa,
Okla.; two sons, LaVerne A Lowe
Jr. of Bolivar and Harold A. Lowe
of Mentor; 26 grandchildren; 35
great-grandchildren; and several
nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a brother,
Stewart Lowe, and two sisters,
Frances Baker and Beatrice Doering.
There will be no visitation. A
memorial service will be held at
5:30 p.m. Friday (Sept. 23, 1994) at
the Lowe residence on Mill Street
with the Rev. Roger Hain, pastor of
Grace Bible Church, officiating.
Arrangements are under the direction
of the Virgil L. Howard Funeral
Home, Shinglehouse.
