Waldo J. Cox, 89, of Comes Creek Rd., Port Allegany, PA, passed away Monday (Feb. 18, 2013) in his home.
Born Sept. 9, 1923, in Port Allegany, he was a son of Zera A. and Esther Rifle Cox. On Oct. 15, 1949, in Roulette, he married Caroline C. Hill, who died Jan. 28, 2011. They were married for 61 years.
Mr. Cox was co-owner of Cox Busing and a self-employed farmer for many years. He also was a former Liberty Township supervisor, before his retirement.
He was a lifetime resident of the area and a 64 year member of Liberty Lodge 505, F. & A.M., Port Allegany. He was also an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Surviving are three sons, Thomas D. Cox of St. Mary’s, PA, Charles M. (Lynn) Cox of Port Allegany, Timothy J. Cox of Alfred, NY; two daughters, Jean E. (Steve) Stamilio of Charlotte, NC, and Martha J. Cox of Port Allegany; two grandsons, Anthony and Stephen Stamilio both of Charlotte, NC, a granddaughter, Rebecca (Jeremy) Ehret of Greenville, NC; a brother, Robert F. Cox of Port Allegany; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Caroline, and two brothers, Zera Cox and Herbert Cox.
Friends called at the Switzer Funeral Home, Port Allegany, where a funeral service was held with Rev. Michael Culver, pastor of the First Baptist Church, officiating. Burial in Rathbone Cemetery, Coneville.
Memorials can be made to the Port Area Ambulance Service or Star Hose Fire Department.
