Samuel F. Mesler, Sr. “beloved grandpa”
SHINGLEHOUSE, PA---Samuel F. “Sam” “Grandpa” Mesler, Sr., 71, of Shinglehouse, died unexpectedly Tuesday, October 18, 2011 in his home.
Born July 29, 1940 in Shinglehouse, he was a son of Francis E. and Alta M. James Mesler. On August 12, 1961 in Gold, PA, he married Wilma E. Jordan, who survives.
He was a graduate of Oswayo Valley High School, class of 1959. In his early years, Mr. Mesler was a self-employed farmer and oil field worker. In 1973 he went to work for the former Clark Brothers, Inc. in Olean, retiring on January 1, 2004. In addition to his job at Clark Brothers, he was a logger and sold firewood for many years.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his grandsons.
Surviving besides his wife are five children, Joann M. (Mike Cadwell) Mesler of Coudersport, Gordon E. (Betsy) Mesler, Sam F. Mesler, Jr., and Judy A. (William Pratt) Mesler, all of Shinglehouse, and Janet E. (Rick Hauser) Mesler of Holly Lake Ranch, TX; twelve grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a brother, Joseph A. (Virginia) Mesler of Shinglehouse; three sisters, Delores A. (Glenn) Jordan of Coudersport, Letha M. (Chestley) Mitchell of Ischua, NY, and Diane K. Button of Eldred; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Mesler was predeceased by two sons, David P. Mesler and infant Randy E. Mesler; an infant daughter, Ruth Ann Mesler; and three brothers, Denton W. Mesler, Francis A. Mesler, and Richard E. Mesler.
Graveside memorial and committal services will be held in East Sharon Cemetery at a date and time to be announced.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, Shinglehouse, PA.
