Robert 'John' Green “commended to the Lord”
Robert 'John' Green, 89, of Shinglehouse, PA, passed away surrounded by his loving family in his home on Wednesday, April 10, 2013 after a long illness.
Born January 1, 1924 in Ceres, PA, he was a son of Daniel P. and Lena Spencer Green. On June 17, 1943 in Shinglehouse, he married Ruth E. Murray, who survives.
Mr. Green attended area country schools and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was employed in local oil fields and was also employed at the former Clark Sawmill and Peppers Sawmill in Shinglehouse.
Mr. Green was a member of Grace Bible Independent Baptist Church in Shinglehouse where he served as head usher and helped with the construction of the church. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and woodworking.
Surviving besides his wife are four children, Cecil E. (Betty) Green of Shinglehouse, Darlene M. (Jack) McCumber of Alma, NY, Gordon O. Green of Shinglehouse, and Doris E. (Daryl) DeMaris of Bolivar, NY; seven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; a brother, Daniel “Mike” Green, Jr. of Florida; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Green was predeceased by a grandson, Mark Timothy Crowder, Jr.; a granddaughter, Elizabeth Marie Green; a great-granddaughter, Marnita Darlene Nikkel; four brothers, Cecil Green, Howard Green, Ken Green, and Karley Baker; and a sister, Gertrude Kelly.
Friends may call on Saturday, April 13, 2013 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Grace Bible Independent Baptist Church, Coon Crossing Road, Shinglehouse, where funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Roger N. Hain, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Shinglehouse.
