Hazel G. Kemp

MILLPORT, Pa.- Hazel G. Kemp, 79, of the Eleven Mile Road died Monday (Sept. 22, 1997) in the Charles Cole Memorial Hospital, Coudersport, after a short illness.

She was born on Sept. 22, 1918, in Chrystal, a daughter of Eugene and Mary Walker Goodspeed. On May 21, 1943, in Chrystal, she married Carrol B. Kemp, who survives.

She attended Chrystal Country School and was a graduate of Shinglehouse High School, class of 1935. Mrs. Kemp graduated from Mansfield State College in 1943 with a bachelor of science in education.

An elementary school teacher in Potter and McKean counties, Mrs. Kemp retired in 1973 from the Oswayo Valley School District, Shinglehouse. She was a member of the Chrystal United Methodist Church, where she served in many capacities. She was a member of the Pensylvania Association of School Retirees.

Surviving besides her husband is one son, Thomas W. (Nancy) Kemp of Shinglehouse; a daughter, Eloise K. (George) Leedom of Massena, N.Y.; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one sister, Miss Helen E. Goodspeed of Eleven Mile; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by one sister, Gladys G. Hand.

Friends may call at the Virgil Howard Funeral Home, Shinglehouse today from 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday (Sept. 24, 1997) from 10 to 11 a.m., at which time funeral and committal services will be held with the Rev. Fred Kemp, nephew of the deceased, and Rev. Christine A. Groeger, pastor of the Chrystal United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in the Chrystal Cemetery, Eleven Mile, Pa.
