Charles L. Skinner Sr. “formerly of Portville, NY” Shinglehouse, PA---Charles L. “Charlie” Skinner Sr., 70, of Shinglehouse, PA, formerly of Portville, NY, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 17, 2009 in Sweden Valley Manor, Coudersport, PA, after a long illness. Born July 6, 1939 in Friendship, NY, he was a son of Leo and Truey Pelton Skinner. Mr. Skinner attended school in Friendship, NY. For many years Charlie mowed and was caretaker and grave digger at Chestnut Hill Cemetery in Portville, Main Settlement Cemetery in Portville, Myrtle Cemetery in Myrtle, Ceres Cemetery in Ceres, PA, East Sharon Cemetery in Shinglehouse, and Maple Grove Cemetery in Shinglehouse. Charlie was also a self-employed rubbish disposal owner/operator and in addition had a landscaping business. He was a member of the House of Prayer Fellowship in South Bolivar, NY. Charlie enjoyed working and tinkering on lawn mowers, solving crossword puzzles, watching movies, and reading his Bible. He loved nature. His greatest love was being with his longtime companion of 21 years, Madge L. Lydic and her two daughters. Surviving besides his longtime companion, Madge L. Lydic and her two daughters, Lisa M. Lydic and Amy M. Lydic (Stephen W. Jr.) Fiske, both of Ceres, PA, are six children: Charles L. (Theresa) Skinner Jr. of Mount Jewett, PA, Carl L. (Doreen) Skinner of Port Allegany, PA, Sarah L. (Stephen W. Sr.) Fiske of Ceres, PA, Paula A. (Ronald) Swartz of Eldred, PA, Frank R. (Angel) Skinner of Port Allegany, PA, and Debbie A. Skinner of Shinglehouse; ten grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; 1 sister, Lillian S. (Doug) Brown of Lakewood, NY; a half brother; three half sisters; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Skinner was preceded in death by a son, Charles L. Skinner III; a granddaughter; and a sister, Thelma Skinner. There will be no public visitation. Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service on Saturday, October 24, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. in the House of Prayer Fellowship, South Bolivar, NY with the Rev. Roy E. Elliott, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery, Shinglehouse, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the House of Prayer Fellowship, c/o Pastor Roy E. Elliott, 907 South Bolivar Road, Bolivar, NY 14715, for the building of a fellowship hall. Arrangements are under the direction of the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, Shinglehouse, PA.
