Robert B. Lawton, 'Boro Bob' SHINGLEHOUSE, Pa. - Robert B. Lawton, 76, of Shinglehouse died today (Monday, Dec. 4, 2006) at the Olean (NY) General Hospital after a short illness. Born Feb. 15, 1930, in Rixford, he was a son of Clayton R. "Stub" and Helen C. Holcomb Lawton. On April 27,1957, in the Shinglehouse United Methodist Church, he married Elizabeth A. "Liz" Press, who survives. Mr. Lawton was a graduate of Shinglehouse High School, class of 1948, and was a veter­an of the U.S. Army, having served during the Korean War, from 1951 to 1953 in Germany. He was employed by Moore Business Forms in Elmira, N.Y., for 17 years. He then moved back to Shinglehouse and was employed by Acme Electric Corp. in Allegany; N.Y. He also worked at Norton's Building Supply Inc. in , Shinglehouse and was later employed as superintendent of , Public Works for Shinglehouse Borough, retiring in 1995 after 22 years of service. From 1996 to 2004, he was employed at the former Hennigh's Trailer , Sales in Shinglehouse. He was also the security guard at Oswayo Valley Junior-Senior. High School in Shinglehouse from 1913 until the time of his death. In addition, he served as Potter County constable. Mr, Lawton was a member of the Shinglehouse United Methodist Church, where he was a former trustee. He was a life member of the Shinglehouse Volunteer Fire Department and Shinglehouse Volunteer Ambulance Association, serving in many offices of both organizations. He was also a member of Shinglehouse American Legion Post 530. Mr. Lawton was currently serving as the mayor of Shinglehouse. He was a past member of the Shinglehouse Borough Council. Surviving besides his wife are two sons, Gary R. Lawton of Little Valley, N.Y., and Danny M. (Vicki) Lawton of Shinglehouse; a grandson, Bobby D. Lawton; a grand­daughter, Jennifer M. Lawton; two sisters, Beatrice 1. (Burdette) West of Millport and Edith E. (Francis) Freaney of Olean, N.Y.; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Manford R. Lawton; and a sister, Margaret R. Sisson. Friends may call Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, Shinglehouse, where funeral services will be held Wednesday (Dec. 6, 2006) at ·11 a.m. The Rev. Daniel P. Grimes, pastor of the. Shinglehouse United Methodist Church, and the Rev. Randall W. Headley, pas­tor of the United Methodist Church of Port Allegany, will officiate. Committal services and burial will be held in Maple Grove Cemetery, Shinglehouse. Members of the Shinglehouse Volunteer Fire Department and Shinglehouse Volunteer Ambulance Association will assemble at the funeral home on Tuesday at 8:30 p.m. Members of the Potter County Honor Guard will accord full military honors on Wednesday.
