Obituary: Leslie L. “Les” Blauvelt BOLIVAR, NY----Leslie L. “Les” Blauvelt, 61, of Bolivar, passed away with his loving family at his side on Thursday, August 9, 2012 in Jones Memorial Hospital, Wellsville, after a long illness. Born August 10, 1950 in Elmira, NY, he was a son of Maybelle Cummings Blauvelt. On July 1, 1981 in Little Genesee, he married Susan M. Frank, who died on October 24, 2002. Mr. Blauvelt was a graduate of Bolivar High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Army, having served during the Vietnam War. He was employed as a materials and equipment operator at Pittsburgh Corning Corporation in Port Allegany, PA for 29 years until retiring on September 1, 2007. He was a former member and past commander of American Legion Post #772 in Bolivar and a member of the Wellsville American Legion Post #702. In his earlier years, he was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved his beagle, Penny. Surviving are a son, Michael L. (Ashley) Blauvelt of Erie, PA; three daughters, Melissa S. (Vernon) Washburn of West Almond, Stacy L. Blauvelt-Stropas of Pennsylvania, and Kelly Jo Saulter of California; nine grandchildren; three brothers, William W. (Mildred) Blauvelt of Shinglehouse, Robert N. (Michelle) Blauvelt of Little Genesee, NY, and his twin, Clifton R. (Judy) Blauvelt of Nevada; two sisters, Marion R. (Richard) Ferrari of Amherst and Sue E. Stives of Bolivar; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his mother and his wife, Mr. Blauvelt was predeceased by a brother, Wayne E. Blauvelt. At Mr. Blauvelt’s request, there will be no public visitation. Friends are invited to attend graveside committal and burial services at 11 a.m. on Monday, August 13, 2012 in the East Sharon Cemetery, Shinglehouse, PA, with Jamie Blauvelt, Mr. Blauvelt’s nephew, of Bolivar, officiating. Members of the Wellsville American Legion Post #702 and members of the Potter County Honor Guard will accord full military honors. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. Arrangements are under the direction of the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, Shinglehouse, PA.
