Adah R. Kemp


Adah R. Kemp, 86, of Millport, died Wednesday (January 1, 1992)I Charles Cole Memorial Hospital, Coudersport, following a brief illness.

She was born September 5, 1905, in Hornellsville, N.Y., a daughter of Fred and Bertha Willard Merrick. On July 16, 1920, in Allegany, N.Y., she married Roy F. Kemp, who died August 7, 1983. Mrs. Kemp attended Hornell (N.Y.) schools. She had been employed by several restaurants and motels in the Batavia, N.Y. area for many years. During World War II she had been employed at the Eldred Munitions Plant.

She was a member of the Chrystal United Methodist Church.

Survivors include six daughters, Ruth V. Pershing of Ceres, N.Y., Norma L. O'Shaughnessy and Marjorie J. Babcock, both of Syracuse, N.Y., Marie E Austin of Millport, Diane A Stocking of Corfu, N.Y., and Janice N. MacDuffie of Pavilion, N.Y.; 22 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Two sons, Robert L Kemp and Edwin (Buster) Kemp; a daughter Doris M. Taylor; and a brother, Merle Walton, preceded her in death.

Funeral and committal services were held Friday (January 3, 1992) in the Chrystal United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Wayne H. Rothwell, pastor and David Kemp of Shinglehouse officiating. Burial was in Chrystal Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Hemophilia Center of Western Pennsylvania, 812 Fifth St. Pittsburgh, PA 15291; or Chrystal United Methodist Church, in care of Carl Sottolano, Star Route, Shinglehouse, PA 16748.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, Shinglehouse.
